KAREL STEYLAERTS

Studies cello at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels in the class of Carlo Schmitz and the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne with Maria Kliegel. He became a laureate of the Tenuto competition shortly afterwards. That same year he founded the Tröndlin Pianoforte Trio with which he made numerous recordings on historical instruments and was a guest at many national and international festivals. Since 2008, Karel Steylaerts has been solo cellist with the Brussels Philharmonic.

Since 2017, he has been appointed as a permanent accompanist by the Queen Elisabeth Competition for Cello.

In 2022, his version of the six suites for cello solo by J.S. Bach will be released by Etcetera Records.

 

He teaches orchestral literature and transposition at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles.
